The Story

A rather late ripening variety, it accounts for 45% of the Kirwan vineyard and thrives best on gravel-based soil, the first to absorb the spring warmth. Although fickle in yield, it gives the wine its structure, forming small, thick-skinned grapes. As it ages, it reveals superbly delicate aromas and a marvelous complexity.

Merlot comprises 30% of the Kirwan vineyard and thrives on more varied soils. In the temperate climate of our region, Merlot grows well on sandy or clay-based land, colder or more humid. It can also grow on gravelly soil, becoming more delicate, whereas on clay it produces a more potent wine.

It is often more accessible than Cabernet Sauvignon when young, and like its neighbor it grows finer with age for decades.

Wine Information

2011 Yield: 41Hl/Ha - Blending: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon ; 21% Merlot ; 15% Cebernet Franc ; 9% Petit Verdot
dégustation
Aging has been extremely positive for this vintage. The color has deepened and given way to more complex aromas. The bouquet combines black fruit with a variety of spices such as vanilla, liquorice and cinnamon. Here we discover the beautiful aromatic palette of the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Yet the evolution is most striking in the mouth. The wine gained body and fleshiness. It fills the palate. Notes of deeply ripened black cherry mingle with cocoa and mocha.
It has a smooth finish, coating the palate with velvety tannins. The wine unfolds like lush velour fabric.
This very “tactile” wine engages all of our senses and promises fine sensations in the coming years.
