The Story

Château La Lagune is a 3éme Cru Classé property that produces some of the finest wines in the Haut-Médoc AC. La Lagune's history dates back to 1715 when its handsome château was constructed. The vineyards were first planted in 1724.

La Lagune had hit hard times and fallen into disrepair when Georges Brunet bought it in 1954. He replanted the vineyards and totally renovated the chai. By the time he sold it to the Ayala Champagne firm in 196...

Vintage 2016

Bordeaux 2016 in review “A paradox”

by Andrew Caillard MW

The 2016 Bordeaux vintage will be remembered as one of the great years of the 21st century. I haven't been this excited about the prospects of wines this young since the remarkable 2009 and 2010 vintages. At that time, China was at the zenith of its extraordinary rise of fine wines where the highest estates, particularly Château Lafite , had become a backwater currency. Each man a...

Written Notes

Deep colour, Fragrant dark cherry, aniseed, blackberry aromas with hints of dark chocolate, sage and espresso oak. Inky rich with vibrant blackberry, dark cherry fruits, fine grainy chalky textures and long chocolaty firm plume at the finish. Beautifully made wine with lovely tannin density and oak balance. Tasted at the Union des Grand Crus. 96 points

Dark purple red with violet hue and black core. Initially slightly closed, opening up well displaying a rather aromatic character, dark berries, mild spices and toasting aroma. On the palate pleasant start, sweet fruit, balanced tannins, rather discreet mid palate but good length. 93

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is purple and deep. On the nose it is intense, youthful, complex, ripe and closed. The taste is toasty, refined, ripe, firm, fruity, with drying tannins, silky tannins, and average in acidity, medium-bodied, with balanced structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has blackcurrant, spice and new-oak flavours. The finish is long, flavorful and spicy. This wine is sophisticated and fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years.
