The Story

The Grand Vin of Château Phélan Ségur comes from this magnificent terroir of Saint-Estèphe where power dominates. Strengthened by its origins, Château Phélan Ségur has created its identity based on elegance and finesse. With a certain restraint and great precision, it reveals the purity of the fruit, the accuracy of its structure, the silkiness of its tannins, all with a natural freshness. After long ageing, it reveals a bouquet of a rare comp...

Wine Information

While the month of September proved to be changeable, it was the search for optimum ripeness that decided the calendar for picking; the Merlots were picked over a period of 11 days. The decision was taken to wait for the Cabernet Sauvignon, and the result was convincing. At this stage it is possibly the best Cabernet Sauvignon ever harvested, unique for its concentration, intensity of flavour and the quality of its tannins.

Vintage 2015

Full report of Bordeaux 2015 by Andrew Caillard MW “Next in line in a great series of vintages; 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2015.

2015 is a wonderful Bordeaux vintage without the hype or hysteria associated with 2009 and 2010. The wines are generally expressive and generous with wonderful concentration and structure. Given another year in barrel, the wines should gain more complexity and fruit volume. Châteaux, in all sub-regions, are e...

Written Notes

Tasted three times - last time in September 2023. 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot are the blend, and it has a 13.5% alcohol content. It offers a very aromatic profile, with a powerful fragrance of blueberries and blackberries. The wine is well-balanced, with a refined and complex sweetness and a long, fruity aftertaste. It was already impressive in April 2016, and 7.5 years later, it is still a strong and complex wine. It has aged beautifully and is guaranteed to have a long life.

Medium deep colour. Intense Liquorice, dark cherry, black currant, brambly aromas. Sweet inky, sweet, fruited, sinewy tannins. Really attractive but tannins are slightly soupy in structure. Will probably soften out and integrate. 93 points

Dark purple red with violet hue and almost black core. Aromatic nose with distinct blackcurrant aroma, blackberries and hints of vanilla in the background. A touch of roasting aroma adds to the wine's complexity. On the palate well structured with fine tannins and good length, pleasant fruit in the finish.
