The Story

Our Hamlets Rosé showcases from Montepulciano from the Hamlet of Halletts Valley, with a small amount of barrel fermented Grenache from the Hamlet of Nuriootpa in the mix.

Picked before dawn and straight to the winery for light pressing to minimise colour and maintain freshness. Chilled down in tank then allowed to slowly warm itself up, 100% naturally fermented, minimal acid & sulphur added and nothing else!

Light pale pink in the glass...

Wine Information

The Montepulciano had extremely minimal skin contact and was immediately destemmed and pressed to tank, where natural/wild ferment occurred as the juice warmed. Fermented to complete dryness, then settled, racked and bottled in quick succession.

The Grenache (about 10% of the blend) was handpicked earlier than the “Monte” and pressed into seasoned French Oak barrels, where it underwent natural fermentation, to create a creamy texture and en...

Vintage 2024

Vintage 2024 conditions

The below-average sized crush can be attributed to a number of seasonal factors as well as various forms of human intervention driven by economic considerations and market forces.

Major global-scale climate influences on the Australian climate in 2023 were a La Niña at the start of the year, an El Niño and a strong positive Indian Ocean Dipole which were established in early spring, and a positive phase of the S...

Written Notes

A seriously good Rose from Montepulciano with a dribble of barrel-fermented Grenache (a dribble being the technical term for around 10%). I have a good friend named Hamlet, one of the world’s great cigar rollers, and I was tempted to put some aside for his next visit, but the only thing he drinks which begins with ‘R’ is rum. All of which is completely irrelevant. Wild fermentation was in older French oak barrels.

The colour is a burning orange. This is a slightly savoury style of Rose with a touch of warm earth and truffles, along with aromas of raspberries, cherries, florals and even freshly sliced watermelon. This is a refined and elegant style of Rose, lifted to the next level by the enhanced textural component. There is fine acidity, good focus and serious persistence. Enjoy this over the next three to four years. A really good dry Rose. Even Hamlet himself might be persuaded. 93.
