Wine Description
The Story
The first vintage, produced in 1986, established this wine as an instant Napa Valley classic. Select Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc and aged in no greater than 60% new French oak. For close to three decades, this standard-bearer has consistently shown impressive structure and velvety berry flavors.
Wine Information
2009 was a relatively mild growing season, with moderate spring rains, and a long, steady period of ripening. The result was unusually dark, fragrant, structured wines, that will surely age for decades. The Dalla Valle’s vineyards delivered stunningly gorgeous fruit across all blocks, and the wines were a reflection of this. This made the blending process an inspirational exercise. The 2009 Dalla Valle Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 21% Cabernet Franc. Its flavor profile matches perfectly its dark red-purple hue, with aromas of cinnamon, licorice, cardamom, and black currant. These enticing aromas are overlaid with notes of menthol, resin, and hardwood extract. These complexities carry through to the palate, as fruit and spice flavors explode on the entry. Firm tannins give a grip, which lengthens the finish and will certainly add great longevity to the wine.
