Inside Information

Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe ranks as one of the great wine estates of France. Henri Brunier's grandfather, Hypolite, started making wine at Vieux Telegraphe in 1900. Most of the vineyards are on a well exposed plateau where Chappe, the inventor of the optical telegraph system, constructed a tower for his experiments in 1794. The remains of this stucture are the origin of the rather curious name, "Vieux Telegraphe". Today Henri Brunier's son, Daniel, runs the estate very capably, with his brother, Frédéric, looking after the vineyards. They also own and run Domaine de la Roquette, another leading Châteauneuf domaine.
