St. Aubin "Les Murgers des Dents de Chien" 2006

Like the best examples of St. Aubin, this is ripe but extraordinarily fresh and features a nose that offers up notes of peach, pear and apricot that merge into powerful yet beautifully detailed flavors that possess solid concentration and a velvety mouth feel on the deep, long and driving citrus and mineral-infused finish. I very much like the harmony of expression here and this would give plenty of 1ers from more prestigious communes a run for their money but less of yours. Recommended.

Vincent Prudhon calls 2006 a "classic Burgundian vintage. But how it wound up that way isn't easy to understand because July was incredibly hot and dry, even hotter than in 2003 yet August was humid, cool and cloudy. September though was essentially perfect and I hate to think what we would have had for raw materials without it. In fact, the grapes were riper than we thought, especially in chardonnay. There was some rot in pinot and it was necessary to sort carefully though the chardonnay was essentially very clean. We began picking on September 21st and brought in chardonnay with sugars that were in the 13 to 14% range with basically perfect phenolic maturity. I really like the whites as they have everything they need to age well." I have noted this several times but it bears repeating: the Prudhon wines represent some of the finest values in all of Burgundy.
