Vintage 2020

In Burgundy, the harvest is over for most farmers. It has been a year with a lot of heat both in July and August. A huge problem this year has been leaf-thinning and canopy management. Those who have not paid enough attention to the leaf-thinning experienced problems with sunburned grapes.

Written Notes

Appearance

Deep ruby with a vivid, youthful sheen and a slightly darker core, glossy and alive.

Nose

Elegant and beautifully precise. Aromas of ripe black cherry, wild strawberry, and blackberry unfold alongside floral notes of violet and rose. With time, subtle layers of spice, licorice, crushed stone, incense, and forest floor emerge. The bouquet is generous yet never heavy, showing remarkable clarity and refinement.

Palate

Silky and composed on entry, the wine expands gradually across the palate. The fruit profile is ripe but impeccably balanced, supported by fine, polished tannins that give structure without austerity. Acidity remains fresh and well-integrated, lending lift and definition. Mineral and savory nuances—iron, wet stone, and gentle earth—add depth and complexity.

Finish

Long, smooth, and resonant, with lingering dark fruit, floral notes, and a subtle saline-mineral echo.

Overall Impression

This 2020 Chambertin sits stylistically between the power of 2015 and the tension of 2019, offering a more immediately harmonious and approachable profile while retaining serious depth and aging potential. It is a refined, graceful Chambertin that emphasizes elegance, balance, and terroir expression.
