The Story

 By and large, Emmanuel has remained faithful to the techniques employed by Henri Jayer - namely an insistence on ultra low yields, a pre-fermentation cold maceration and the maturation of the major wines in 100% new oak barrels. The grapes are sorted both in the vineyard and again in the cuvérie, before being destalked and fermented after a cool pre-maceration. Emmanuel Rougeot favours pumping over ahead of punching down. Vintage 1993

In Burgundy 1993, an early flowering in the month of June, was followed by a wet early July before a hot dry August. The reds of 1993 are outstanding. They are powerful and concentrated with a firm backbone of ripe tannins. The whites although austere to begin with and slow to evolve have developed into magnificent well structured, powerful wines. A vintage that produced wines built for ageing.

Once again, expectations were high in Burgundy...

The 1993 Emmanuel Rouget Vosne Romanée Cros Parantoux was ‘great’ per BJ with positive rubber and musk aromas.  This was the ‘most complete’ per BJ and ‘spicy’ per Pitts.  There were some benevolent clay flavors, and the Rouget had a long, enduring finish.  This was a more classic 1993, even though it became more elegant in the glass(95).
