The Story

Bricco delle Viole is synonymous of elegance. It is a wine that has naturally guided the style of our winery and taught us patience. – Aldo Vaira –

DESCRIPTION

A smooth interwoven silkiness is what best characterizes Bricco delle Viole. Coming from its namesake vineyard, it is located on the highest part of the Comune of Barolo. From its uniquely high position you can see, and almost touch, the stunning Alpine mountains: a

VINEYARDS

Bricco Delle Viole is a hill which emerged about 11 million years ago, during the geological Tortonian Age. It situes in a clay-calcium rich soil with a high concentration of magnesium and manganese, an altitude of 400/480 meters, a microclimate which is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter. Only the oldest vines are vini ed for this selection, while the younger ones are champing at the bit, waiting anxiously to grow up and become “of age”.

FARMING

Vajra has always believed in sustainable farming and keeps the turf natural and green in the vineyard. No irrigation is used while thinning is decided according to the vintage.

HARVEST AND WINEMAKING

These vineyards are the last to be harvested. e wait makes our hearts palpitate because the weather, in autumn, can instantly change. But it is a waiting period that is rewarded with high aromatic complexity and extreme nesse. Some years it is even necessary to patiently pick grapes in di erent stages, in order to respect these old vines and select the ripest grapes possible. 30 to sometimes 40 days of fermentation are needed to let the wealth of tannins pass from the skins, seeds and in some years, even the stems. A long aging period (approx. 42-48 months) in big barrels (25-50 Hl) of Slavonian oak is carried out before bottling.
