Written Notes

If you thought that the background story to the Staff Chardonnay was a smidge of a stretch, hang on. Twigs from the Hazel tree have been considered to be effective in warding off evil, and also in water divination. A switch is a bundle of twigs, apparently not dissimilar to bundling together these three varieties. Again, it is what is in the bottle that is important to us and this has always been a wine which provides enormous pleasure. This vintage spent a year maturing in French oak, 10% new, before all the different components were finally blended.

Bright red colour here, with cherries, raspberries, warm earth, tobacco leaves, mulberries and smoked meats on the nose. The palate moves more to the black fruit sphere. The wine has decent length and good intensity with firm grip. This is an enjoyable style, certain to provide pleasure over the next six to ten years. 92.
