The Story

English writer and social critic Charles Dickens’ first novel was The Pickwick Papers – part of a serial which captured the spirit of mid-19th century London. The series’ main protagonist was Samuel Pickwick. A kind, curious man, Mr Pickwick was a retired businessman and founder of the Pickwick Club, a group dedicated to exploring remove places and reporting their findings. We pay homage to Mr Pickwick – and his love of port – with this fine tawny. Mr Pickwick's Tawny is widely regarded as Australia's definitive tawny. With an average age of more than 21 years, Mr Pickwick's Tawny is unique among fortified wines for its quality, consistency and availability. Mr Pickwick's rounded and mellow flavours come from great aging and a long period of maturation in small oak casks to enhance the bouquet, palate, and rich, tawny colour.

Origin: Barossa Valley

Tasting note: On the nose there are complex fruit and rancio qualities. The concentrated, mature nose has a freshness and lift belying an average of more than 20 years. On the palate the wine is intense and concentrated and quite luscious, with a great richness, texture and mouthfilling flavour. Its excellent and mature spirit add to the depth and intrigue presented by such old, rare tawny.

93 points Halliday Wine Companion

“Pale-mid-amber hue with a glint of rouge; raisins dipped in brandy, baking spices with toffee caramel all meeting up with complex barrel aged flavours, clean spirit almost a little brandy-esque and warming. Lemony freshness and acidity on the palate cutting through the sweetness.” – James Halliday 93p / Halliday Wine Companion
