“Very deep and primary fruit character to this red gives the wine amazing length and focus. It seems to go on forever. Full body yet vivid and energetic. Tannic and muscular yet so polished and refined. Drink now. But one for the cellar as well.”

99/100 James Suckling

The Story

Viñedo Chadwick represents the Chadwick family’s long cherished desire to honour the memory of the late Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz with an Ultra Premium red wine showcasing the ancestry, tradition, and expertise of the Chadwick-Errázuriz family for producing fine wines reflecting the family’s passion for excellence. The aim is to make an elegant wine with freshness and purity, showing the Maipo Valley at its highest level. Although Don Alfonso never saw the finished wine, he is remembered with every bottle of Viñedo Chadwick.

The first vintage of Viñedo Chadwick (1999) was released to great success in 2002. Its second vintage (2000) would later make history on 23 January 2004, when the Berlin Tasting took place.

Since its inaugural release Viñedo Chadwick has consistently received the highest praise and recognition throughout its entire history, including being Robert Parker’s highest-rated Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile for five consecutive vintages.

The 2014 vintage marked a milestone for Chilean wine history, as well as for the family winery. On May 2016, Viñedo Chadwick 2014 scored a perfect 100 points, becoming the first Chilean wine to achieve the world’s highest recognition.

Wine Information

Vintage 2015 was another fantastic growing season for Viñedo Chadwick. After one of the driest winters in record, as expected, bud break was earlier than normal but coupled with a moderate spring, achieving a perfect fruit set. The subsequent warm weather also meant great conditions during our veraison period and a nice even onset of ripening began. The season meant healthy vines were able to take the fruit, tannins and sugar through to the desired ripeness.

Because of the early budbreak, we benefitted from an extended hangtime, which allowed for an even and complete maturity of the decently sizable crop. An unusually warm and dry October then followed which pushed along the phenological ripeness allowing us to quickly catch up to the normal. Despite the heat spike in October, temperatures in November and December were consistent with historical averages. This resulted in notably healthy vines and steady growth of the canopy. In all, spring reached a heat summation that was 7% higher than historical averages, favoring a healthy flowering and fruit set, and ensuring small, concentrated berries.

The heat summation during the summer months was practically the same as our historical records. January was classic Alto Maipo, ensuring an even and short veraison. Nevertheless, February turned out to be 7% cooler than our records and moved into a very warm March, with 6% higher heat summation records than average. We promptly reacted as to preserve the elegant and fresh style of Viñedo Chadwick and all of the grapes were picked during March precisely in the window for optimum ripeness over a period of only nine days.

As a result, the Viñedo Chadwick 2015 is truly a wine full of depth and richness. The style remains consistent, always represented by its fine and elegant tannins, balance and purity.

Inside Information

"Deep, bright ruby color, 2015 Viñedo Chadwick reveals fresh red fruits in the entrance with soft notes of licorice and gooseberries, accompanied by some herbal tones reminiscent of peppermint, with nuances of cedar, cigar box and cloves. Full-bodied, the wine offers the same rich fresh fruit impressions in the palate accompanied by soft herbal notes, leather bean, tobacco, licorice and bitter chocolate. The mouth feel is elegant and round, with highly structured but finely polished tannins. Its tension and freshness help the wine age for a long time, the length is impressive, carrying the fine grained tannins and velvety sensation for a long time. Viñedo Chadwick will age gracefully providing a classic presentation of our estate’s terroir represented by its fine and elegant tannins, balance and purity.”

Francisco Baettig, Technical Director
