Nearly unremitting rain and cold combined to insure both a tiny crop due to poor flowering and a largely unripe one, though there was just enough warmth and sun in July that some Kabinetts of character were rendered by intrepid growers from top sites.
A complicated vintage with great difficulties to harvest good grape qualities for fermenting dry wines. However this wine is an exceptional example for this vintage. Amber colour with golden hue. Aromatic nose initially displaying a distinct aroma reminiscent of quince jelly, candied lemon peel and ripe hazelnuts, later pointing towards a more balmy and almost smoky character with a hint of caramel. On the palate opulent and aromatic start but ending with distinct acidity creating an exciting tension. The mature flavour, hints of brown banana and dried fruits, adds to this tension. A surprisingly well matured and complex Pinot for its vintage and age.
