The Story

With its pedigree style, CHATEAU-FIGEAC epitomises the elegance of the great wines of Bordeaux.

The wine’s individual character is drawn from an outstanding, complex terroir, characterised by three Gunzian gravel outcrops. Made from a grape composition of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot, its Cabernet majority is one of its features.Its unique style gradually shows through and develops over time.

Vintage 1975

Bordeaux: After four miserable vintages came the hot vintage of 1975 which briefly put Bordeaux wines in the spotlight once again. The unstable temperature of September turned into good weather for the harvest. The grapes were high in sugar, but many reds, especially those made from Cabernet Sauvignon, lacked phenolic ripeness. This resulted in masculine and even aggressive reds with austere and even harsh tannins.

1975 Figeac – this property has usually 66% Cabernet in the blend with half Franc and half Sauvignon. Remaining 34% is Merlot. Impressive length, complexity and structure. Sophisticated stuff. In full bloom. 94p.

In the neck fill. Ruby, brick rim, lots of sediments. Wow, where do I begin? Very on an off bottle at the beginning, earthy and dusty going back and forth to scented and blueberries, wood polish and leather. It rested on the last luckily. Fresh acidity, ripe and polished off tannins, fairly lean and very old school. Not a great bottle but enjoyable although many would find it to old.
