The Story

This is one of those vintages which is great to drink from the start without detracting in the least its potential for laying down for the future.

These wines amaze you with their great flavour from the first sip, the seemingly precocious integration of the tannins, the freshness of their “Atlantic” features interwoven with the more mature “Mediterranean” character.

If we look for the words to describe the wine we can come up with ripe f...

Vintage 2016

SPAIN 2016 will be remembered for the piles of grapes thrown to the ground in Rioja. Our most renowned wine region, as well as Navarra and most appellations in Castilla y León, registered very high yields in sharp contrast with Mediterranean wine regions where drought led to below-average production levels. The gloomy picture came from Ribeira Sacra in Galicia where severe hail hit the area of Doade in August and destroyed 400,000 kilos of gra...

Written Notes

Appearance is medium-deep, dense garnet/black cherry colour.

The nose is complex with red ripe berry and black fruit coming to the fore with subtle black pepper, smoky oak, followed by notes of coffee and a touch of mint.

The entry on the palate is smooth and elegant. It develops with good volume towards an elegant, harmonious mid-palate revealing fresh, ripe red berry fruits and spice. The whole is underpinned by a powerful tannic structure and fresh acidity.

Selección Especial 2016 is a wine made from Tempranillo and Garnacha. A very long ageing, as we are talking about 26 months in French oak barrels and a subsequent period of 12 months in bottle.

It is a wine with a more modern concept than others produced by the winery.

A wine that in sight leaves us in glass stop a cherry color, with garnet tones in movement. It leaves us a medium to high layer. No defects.

In nose black fruit, lactic, we continue with mineral notes, scrubland. Wood in the background. Vanilla, licorice, cocoa, coffee with milk. Complex. Very good.

On the palate. Consistent attack. Structured and full-bodied on the palate. Wide and long. Fruity on the palate. Brutal acidity that offsets the sweet touch. Fleshy and crisp tannins. All well integrated. Long, bitter and mineral quality finish.
