The Story

Along with the grapes for Torre Muga, the Prado Enea grapes are always the last to be brought into the winery. In this way we ensure an ideal level of ripeness. The grapes are always fermented in 10,000 kilo capacity oak vats without temperature control and no addition of yeasts. The maceration period varies but can continue for as long as twenty days. This wine is aged for 12 months in 16,000-litre oak vats, thirty-six months (minimum) in oak...

Wine Information

A blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and the remaining 10% Mazuelo and Graciano aged for a long time in oak and bottled before release. 2006 was extremely warm vintage, but grapes come from the higher altitude vineyard plots with cooler temperatures and  clay rich soil with high water holding capacity, which guarantees the freshness and good acidic backbone in wine.

Written Notes

Intense ruby-red, cherry heart and slight brick-red tinge at the edge. The colour has not developed very much. Expressive, well defined aged character but with reminders of the fruit. A base of very ripe red fruit (plums, blackcurrants) cloaked in a fairly classical bouquet which gradually opens up more subtle nuances as the wine is aired. First come the hints of fine wood (cedar, fresh acacia bark), then lots of spicy aromas (cinnamon, cloves, black peppercorns) and finally reminders of tobacco leaves and tea to round off an overall impression combining a clear classic character with very modern vitality. Balanced on the palate, with body and liveliness, the tannins well tamed by the ageing but still there, providing sensations of noble strength, consistent, full mouth-feel, lively, well integrated acidity and wood, full of taste and suggestive mouth aromas in which the fine reminders of ripe fruit are more apparent, persistent, supple finish inviting you to have another glass. An exemplary Gran Reserva, well developed and full of vitality. Expression of the fruit, with the classic Rioja bouquet (with no animal notes or any sign of oxidation) and with the fine, lively character of a red from the Rioja Alta.
Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is brick red, and looking bright and medium. On the nose it is intense, open, refined, seductive, pure and charming. The taste is elegant, silky, perfumed, fragrant, harmonious, with medium tannin ., with silky tannins, and average in acidity, full-bodied, with perfectly balanced structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has floral, plum, licorice, spice, toasty, smoky and perfumed flavours. The finish is long, lingering, flavorful and vibrant. This wine is sophisticated and fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 2h before tasting.
