The Story

The first Heidsieck vintage rosé to market since 1999, released before the slumbering 2005, reminds us what pure pleasure it is. A roll-call of Champagne’s most distinguished crus – no fewer than 15 – contribute to the blend of 63% pinot noir and 37% chardonnay. Its obvious distinction is secondary to the pure pleasure of its fragrant, nuanced floral aromas and exquisite, ‘drink-me-now’ flavours, but this will keep too

Wine Information

Although a Rosé Millésime 2005 remains in the pipeline, Charles Heidsieck’s executive director Stephen Leroux explained the decision to launch a 2006 expression first, saying: “2005 is very good, but it’s so closed.”

In keeping with the house’s traditional approach, the Rosé Millésime 2006, which carries an RRP of £95, is made up of just over 60% Pinot Noir and around 30% Chardonnay, drawn from around 15 villages.

Vintage 2006

A cold winter and springtime frosts laid the foundations for this vintage of abundant yields (12,997 kg/ha). Uneventful flowering was followed by exceptionally hot and sunny weather, which lasted until August. Harvest commenced on September 9th, producing grapes high in sugar level but notably low on acidity. The general health of t...

Written Notes

This was the after lunch cleanser, which is a bit demeaning to a superb Rose champagne. Fresh, with spice and strawberries. Balanced nicely and with impressive length. Has complexity alongside the freshness and flavour. Quite elegant, lingers and is simply a lovely wine. 96.

  • 96p

Lightly burnished purple-gold hue with a halo-like mousse.  Lovely aromas of citrus, mineral and brioche.  Citrus flavors of grapefruit and lemon peel laced with char and chalk. Lively, youthful finish embodies a perfectly dry, acidic, wide Rosé style. With every release, this quintessential Rosé seems to set the standard for all Rosé Champagnes.

  • 95p
Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is salmon and light. On the nose it is intense, youthful, fresh and closed. On the palate it is layered and has cherry, perfumed and floral flavours.

Inside Information

Vinification: After the first fermentation, the wine is racked to separate the lees and then undergoes malolactic fermentation to soften the natural acidity. 10% of the blend is vinifed as a red wine. After blending, the cuvée is bottled and selected yeast added to begin the second fermentation. The bottles are placed in the cellar at a temperature of about 10°C to age for a minimum of 10 years before release.
