Written Notes

The 1924 Lafite-Rothschild comes from my own personal bottle purchased when the First Growth was a fraction of today's price! Pale with heavy bricking, the pallid bouquet might be mistaken for a wine from the Côte d'Or, with light cherry, cigar box and autumn leaf notes. The palate is light but balanced, certainly drinkable, but with some dryness on the finish. Despite some unexpected melioration in bottle, the 1924 appears to have reached the end of its road. Tasted at a private dinner in Mayfair.

Tasted in April 2014 during dinner at Domaine de Chevalier. A blast from the past with incredible nose of truffles, truffy palate too, riveting elegance and remarkable complexity as well. Amazing wine.
