The Story

The 50 hectares of Léoville and 17 hectares of Langoa, planted in gravelly soil with a clay sub-soil, include large proportions of old vines in order to obtain the best possible quality. The grape varieties is 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc for Léoville Barton, while Langoa Barton’s terroir is shared as follows 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc. Both properties have the same vinification methods...

Wine Information

By complete contrast to Langoa, Leoville Barton is a monumental wine with real gravitas. Produced from 86% Cabernet and the balance Merlot, this is a reserved, reticent wine that slowly unfurls to reveal a glorious bouquet of damson liqueur, graphite, cloves, spice, fine herbs, tobacco and flowers. There is considerable mid palate weight here although there is no excess; it is all pure, taut dark fruit which builds and builds offering layers o...

Vintage 2015

Full report of Bordeaux 2015 by Andrew Caillard MW “Next in line in a great series of vintages; 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2015.

2015 is a wonderful Bordeaux vintage without the hype or hysteria associated with 2009 and 2010. The wines are generally expressive and generous with wonderful concentration and structure. Tasted in October 2019. 86% CS + 14% CF. Only 13% alcohol here! Strong, meaty, corpulent, perfectly ripe fruit and tannin, great complexity and style. Textbook Saint Julien wine!

Ruby. Cassis, violets, blueberries, scented, nuanced, detailed nose, still quite open. Intense. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, anise, blueberries, spices, detailed, intense, layered and long. Refreshing. Drink from 2025 and over the next twenty five years after. 94

Dark purple red with violet hue and almost black core. A great classic with well structured character, hints of dark chocolate and toasting aroma, typical Léoville Barton style with very elegant fruit. On the palate excellent length, great depth and wonderful structure. 97

Deep colour. Classic blackcurrant cedar aromas with herb garden notes. Generously proportioned wine with dense cassis, blueberry fruits, fine dense chocolaty tannins and beautiful ginger mocha oak. Finishes velvety form with superb fruit complexity and length. Very well made wine with gorgeous density of fruit and tannin structure. 95 points

Leoville Barton Saint Julien This is intense on the nose, inky, loganberry, fruit cocktail freshness, earthy, again plenty of tension and silky texture balanced with juicy fruit and ripe tannins. Firmer here than most but there is plenty of generosity too. A good Barton. 92-95/100 2028-2050
