The 2022 L'Evangile is composed of 82% Merlot, 17.5% Cabernet Franc, and 0.5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple in color, it needs a lot of swirling to coax out notes of juicy black plums, boysenberry preserves, and black raspberries, followed by hints of garrigue, clove oil, lilacs, and licorice. The full-bodied palate is chock full of rich, multi-layered black fruits with velvety tannins and...

The Story

The Léglise family from Libourne founded what is now Château L’Evangile. They were actively involved, around the middle of the 18th century, in building the Pomerol vineyard. L’Evangile appeared in the 1741 land registry under the name of Fazilleau.

Written Notes

82% Merlot + 18% Cabernets. 14.5% alcohol. Violets, morello cherries, elegance and finesse, many layers, sappy, vibrant, sophisticated, and persistent finish. The style change is obvious to taste, from a very concentrated and oaky wine until 2020 vintage to a refined and elegant wine with less oak in 2021 and 2022 vintages.

Fresh, wonderfully refined and gorgeously polished and long, with very fine tannins. Medium to full body. Crunchy fruit and chocolate, hazelnut and spice. Exciting to see how this tensioned beauty will evolve. Wonderful clarity. 96-97

Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Complex yet refined nose with initially closed character. Aroma developing slowly, reminiscent of ripe blackberries, red forest berries and hints of plums in the background. Gingerbread spices, violets and fine toasting in the background. Seductive palate with juicy and sweet fruit, elegant spiciness. A complex wine with excellent length, balanced with freshness, silky tannins and a juicy finish.
