Château Pichon Longueville

Château Pichon Longueville, or Pichon Baron as it is often called, is known as "the male" part of the original Pichon Longueville property that got divided in 1850, not only due to the fact that the male heir inherited this part but also because it is a more "manly" wine in character than its sister, Pichon Lalande, across the road.

Written Notes

Tasted at the property in April 2018 during dinner. Tight, full of fruit and tannin, aromatic, dark fruit, absolutely not ready yet to release its potential. We have to wait for at least 10 years.

Château Pichon Longueville Baron 2004 PT 90p 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. 55% Grand Vin IPT 68, 13.3% alc. Latest harvest for 20 years. Much more forward and expressive on the nose than the more backward 2005. Fresh cassis fruit with good ripeness. Medium full bodied on the palate with quite marked acidity and a slight edginess to the palate structure although there is certainly a generosity to the fruit so typical of the property now. The tannins are much softer already yet the creamy new oak still shows on the elegant finish. Needs five years to integrate. Drink 2016-2025.
