The Story

Pontet-Canet has always been a legendary Médoc. It is deep ruby-red, crimson, and sometimes almost black colour and has a characteristic bouquet of black fruit (especially blackcurrant), liquorice, and prune as well as fig, cedar, and sometimes cocoa overtones. Pontet-Canet combines power and elegance, as well as concentration and fullness on the palate. Rather sinewy in style, Pontet-Canet is clearly a classical wine with a tannic structure t...

Vintage 2002

BORDEAUX: 2002 A wonderful vintage of pure, rich, elegant reds and soft, rounded whites.

An early start to flowering was followed by a variable summer with a bit of everything, from cold to hot to hot and back again. A long period of dry weather was beginning to be a problem when the rain of early September arrived, replenishing the vines. When the wind turned to the north, the grapes were dried and the harvest could begin on September 16 u...

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle and in an perfect condition. Colour is ruby red, and looking healthy and medium. On the nose it is mature and complex. The taste is elegant, round, and dry, warming, with medium tannin, with silky tannins, and average in acidity, medium-bodied and with balanced structure. On the palate it is layered and has blackberry, tobacco, mineral, floral, pepper and cranberry flavours. The finish is long and gentle. This wine is excellent. I paid around 50-100€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 45min before tasting. Good value for money. I do recommend.

Ruby. Rich nose, especially for the vintage, dark fruits, cassis, leather, coffee, and tobacco nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity but leaner palate, leather, cassis again, little bit hollow mid palate and still somewhat raw. Long. Sligjtly sweet finish. 91

Consistent notes. Elegant and fruity wine with nice balance and long aftertaste. A joy to drink now.
