The Story

Clos Fourtet enjoys an ideal setting, with its 47 acres of walled vineyard atop a limestone-based plateau. Clos Fourtet was sold in 2001 by the the Lurton family for just under £42 million to the Cuvelier family. By lowering yields, encouraging malolactic fermentation in stainless-steel tanks and employing less new oak, Clos Fourtet shows greater precision.

Vintage 1995

Bordeaux / An excellent year for both sides of the Gironde and just the vintage that Bordeaux needed after the rain affected vintages of the previous 4 years. A mild winter and early spring was followed by a dry, hot summer. It did rain in early September but the rain was less than in the previous 4 vintages and, crucially, there was perfect weather from September 20th through to October.

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle and in an perfect condition. Colour is brick red and medium. On the nose it is mature, seductive and refined. The taste is fresh, elegant, perfumed, and dry, warming, with medium tannin, with silky tannins, and average in acidity, medium-bodied, with complex structure and mature. On the palate it is layered and has cassis, leather, coffee, spice and tobacco flavours. The finish is long. This wine is excellent. I paid around 100-200€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 1-5 years and decant at least 45min before tasting. Good value for money. I do recommend.
