The Story

 Clos Fourtet enjoys an ideal setting, with its 47 acres of walled vineyard atop a limestone-based plateau. Clos Fourtet was sold in 2001 by the the Lurton family for just under £42 million to the Cuvelier family. By lowering yields, encouraging malolactic fermentation in stainless-steel tanks and employing less new oak, Clos Fourtet shows greater precision.

Ruby. Dark fruits, blackberries, anise, spices, minerals, richer nose, detailed, coffee and black tea notes. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, blackberries, anise, spices, dark fruits, layered, nuanced and long. Minerals beneath, some salinity to it. A heavy Clos Fourtet 95-97

Tasted twice with the same impressive result. Delicious on the nose with cherries, raspberries, and violets. Elegant with finesse. Acidity is well-integrated. Great complexity and midpalate. Long and persistent finish. Excellent effort. 96+p.

 Dark purple colour with violet hue. Rich nose with aroma reminiscent of raspberries, wild strawberries, blackberries and mulberries. In the background subtle oak, elegant toasting, gingerbread spices and hints of dark chocolate. On the palate elegant yet persistent with ripe tannins, excellent depth and length. A very convincing and appealing wine.
