Wine Information

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Legendary wines from Clos des Lambrays were made in the thirties and forties, at which time the wines were prized for their tremendous body, richness, and aging potential. I have had extraordinary wines made under the previous owners, the Cosson family, in vintages such as 1937, 1945, 1947, 1948, and 1949.

Written Notes

B/C level fill, about 5 cm below cork. Ruby with brick rim, lots of sediments for a Burgundy. Earthy, touch of strawberries, leather, thyme and lavender, even anise. Gorgeous texture, perfect balance even if a touch of metal first. Later adding more and more body and fruits, silky mouthfeel as I have never had before, absolutely fantastic, cherries, red berries and darker fruits, more intense, leather, plums, tannins gone, after about 20 minutes it really peaks, good acidity but the silk hides it, incredible length. Then dying off getting more coffee and dry. Way beyond expectations, what a fantastic memory I will have of this wine! 98
