The Story

Messorio is our personal interpretation of one of the grape varieties most commonly grown in the Bolgheri area: Merlot.

Written Notes

Gorgeously textured, '12 Messorio puts its Merlot fruit front and center, where it dances with brooding, dark notes of tapenade, sun-warmed earth, incense, crushed flower petals, and spice in a wine that matches its concentration with precision. This is a seamless, structured Messorio bottling that wraps its pure fruit around a core of chewy tannins; powerful and muscular, this wine uncoils on the palate to release a seductive inner perfume, and it builds to a lingering, persistent and utterly transfixing finish. Fermented for about twenty days, then aged for fourteen months in oak (75% new), Messorio is a classic example of Italian Merlot, and it clearly articulates its Bolgheri terroir and its maker's care. The ’12 Messorio is unusually structured, and it will reward wine-lovers with patience; give this bottle a couple of years in the cellar before enjoying it.
