The Story

“First and foremost, I will be perpetuating the fresh, delicate style of wine that has been the Screaming Eagle hallmark since 1992. Across two winemakers before me (Heidi and Andy), that style has stayed remarkably consistent, which is part of the uniqueness of this ranch. The character of the vineyard really asserts itself. What will be new is the discovery of the young vine plots, and the ways that we can farm them individually to get the b...

Written Notes

"Incredible purity to this wine with fresh spearmint, lavendar, sage and blackcurrants. Full body, mind-blowing structure, depth and length. What compexity. A new benchmarket for Napa Valley. This is the new legend, like the 1958 Beaulieu Vineyard George de Latour Private Reserve (my vintage and a wine my father and I drank many times early in my life). Savory. Needs at least 10 years to come around. Try in 2025. A blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc. 820 cases made. Such precision, decadence and layers of sexy fruit."

Screaming Eagle 2010 / (75% cabernet sauvignon, 16% merlot and 9% cabernet franc; the harvest here ended on October 13, about two weeks later than usual): Brilliant ruby-red. Urgent aromas of crushed boysenberry, wild herbs, licorice and spearmint are complemented by sexy oak tones. Densely packed and electric, with great energy to the highly concentrated, pliant flavors of black fruits, cocoa powder and flowers. Still quite youthfully backward, but the inexorable slowly mounting finish and big but noble tannins suggest a long and glorious evolution in bottle. Owing to the small clusters, thick skins and concentration of tannins, this wine got a longer elevage than usual, with the bottling done at the end of November 2012.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon bursts from the glass with an exotic combination of pure power and intensity. Plums, mocha, lavender, espresso, licorice and new leather all blossom in a brooding, imposing wine that is going to require quite a bit of patience. This is another huge, dark Screaming Eagle. Plums, smoke, licorice and melted road tar add complexity on a huge crescendo of exotic aromas and flavors. The 2010 is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc.

Screaming Eagle 2010 - 100 points / A beautiful vintage for Screaming Eagle that brings together the best of this wine's complexity, elegance and depth. The wine is seamless from beginning to end starting off with layers of gorgeous, intense flavors that are in balance with the firm, velvety tannins and wonderful freshness. Flavors unfold gently, without obvious power or opulence, offering layers of mocha, incense, blackberry and savory spices. Incredibly long finish. This is a perfect Screaming Eagle.

Good looking normal size bottle, in an perfect condition and has by the neck level. Colour is ruby red, deep and full. On the nose it is intense, open, refined, opulent, ripe and seductive. The taste is harmonious, focused, fruity, perfumed, fragrant, full-bodied, with well-structured, good texture, concentrated, balanced structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has blackberry, blueberry, cassis, earthy, herbs, cedar, perfumed, nutty, pepper, mushrooms, smoky and leather flavours. The finish is long, extensive, flavorful and pure. This wine is transparent, sexy and fine. I paid around 3k-5k€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 20-30 years and decant at least over 4h before tasting. Good value for money.

Screaming Eagle 2010 / A very rich, dense colour. On the nose sound aromas of espresso roast, honeyed wine with nutty aromas and loads of spicy oak. Lusciously sweet, moderately high acidity and intense fruit with good structure make this elegant, full-bodied wine very appealing already now. The immense length is utterly charming. The relatively high alcohol level is well integrated and the dense voluptuous texture is so thick. One of the best Eagles I have tasted
