Vineyards

The famous «Côte des Blancs» in Champagne covers about 3200 hectares. It is mainly planted with chardonnay grapes and many villages in this area are classified Grand Cru, including Cramant, where Bonnaire family is established since the early XXth century. This region produces fine and elegant wines with a touch of «minerality» that reflects its chalky soils that allow a good drainage of the soils and a regular supply for the vines during summer.

It’s Fernand Bouquemont, Jean-Louis Bonnaire maternal grandfather, who founded the house in 1932 in the time of the global crisis that affected the thirties all around the world. It’s now run by Jean-Louis and it’s two sons. The Bonnaire estate covers today more than 22 hectares, principally planted in Chardonnay.

Winemaking

All along the seasons, work in the field demands a lot of energy from the different winemakers of the Bonnaire house. Knowing every inch of his parcels, Jean-Louis Bonnaire runs carefully the different interventions. If Champagne Bonnaire is a well-known house of the «Côte des Blancs», it’s mainly because of the talent of Jean-Louis Bonnaire to vinify, to blend and to anticipate the evolution of the wines once put on lees. It demands a great combination of experience and proficiency that he now shares with its two sons and offers to its customers.
