Written Notes

This is one of those "light green birchbud wines". What I mean by that? Well, if you have read an old description of young Clos du Mesnil then you will remember that I put the question about when the birches are at their loveliest … I think you got the point. Bonnaire's 04 is of course embarrassingly newborn, but oh dear! so beautiful in its delicate spring apparel. During 2012 the buttery maturity arrived.

Few New Years Champagnes / Bonnaire gran Cru 2004 / Deep orange-toned colour. Clean toasty nose with vanilla and faint oxidative notes ont he charming rich nose. Balanced but more restrained on the palate. It is complete but overly developed for its age. Also lack of energetic effervescence for a wine of this age suggests a leak in the cork. Very enjoyable today despite the fact. 90 points
