The Story

Still from the same Flaxman's Valley vineyard high up in the hills of Eden Valley, still picked in the middle of the night and delivered to the winery before sunrise. This time we fermented it very differently.

Firstly we left a small portion on skins and oxidatively open fermented it with 2-3 daily skin punch downs to keep the skins nice and wet.

We drained off the free run, let settle over night and then rough racked collecting a lot o...

Vintage 2024

Vintage 2024 conditions

Written Notes

A single site Riesling, from the Flaxman’s Valley vineyard in the Eden Valley, from a vintage which really is proving to be exciting. A small portion remained on skins and was oxidatively open fermented to increase the textural aspect and complexity. Pressings spent time in older French oak for the same reason.

Yellow straw in colour, there is no doubt that the textural aspect of this wine sets it apart from most of its contemporaries. Finely crafted, it is beautifully fragrant with florals, limes and lemons, spices and a touch of orange rind. Good focus and energy, there is decent length here with a line of fine acidity running the full journey. Exquisitely balanced, it will provide pleasure for at least the next six to eight years and is already doing so. 93.
