The Story

Giuseppe Rinaldi has a unique way of seeing the world and a presence that makes a lasting impression. An overarching respect for tradition and a fascination with history govern his thoughts and, in turn, inform his wines. Beppe’s personal history dates back five generations to the late 19th-century, when his family and many others sold the fruit of their vineyards to the Falletti family. The first Rinaldi winery (which is still running today under Luciano Rinaldi) was acquired in 1870 from the Falletti’s estate manager, but in the 1920s Giuseppe Rinaldi, grandfather of the current owner, established his own estate with vineyards in Barolo’s best sites: Cannubi, Brunate, Le Coste, and Ravera. Giuseppe’s son Battista later took over the winery and improved cellar techniques to enhance quality; when he passed away in 1992 his son, also named Giuseppe, left his career as a veterinarian to carry on the family work

Written Notes

2008 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barolo Brunate Le Coste
Bright ruby. Cherries, anise, floral, bright and nuanced nose, lifted. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, red fruits, cherries, bright and nuanced, long. 93

Light cherry red with a pale rim. Very pure aroma of autumn mulch. Delicate palate entry leads to very firm tannins. Although this is very young, it is also really elegant. There is just the start of some rose petal flavour. Clean as a whistle. Great vivacity and purity. Very neat finish. Really lissom and truly ethereal. I opened and decanted a bottle four hours before consuming it and it was absolutely delicious even in 2013.

Barolo Brunate-Le Coste Dark and earthy nose that needs some time to get going. Dark, warm, plummy fruit with Asian spices, herbs and mint. Big, sweet, dark fruit attack with big plummy flavors and ripe strawberries. Long with tar and herbs on the mid-palate and small, fine tannins though only moderate acidity. Will need a couple of years to ad complexity. Nicely built though. 2015-2027 92p
