The Story

Champagne Gosset is the oldest wine house in Champagne established in Ay in 1584 and is owned by the Cointreau family. The Cointreaus also own Gosset’s sister company, Cognac Frapin, and Jean Pierre is currently C.E.O of both companies. They bought Gosset in 1993 when Albert Gosset of the original Gosset family died. The Cointreaus hold strong the belief that Gosset is a family run business and maintain the hands on approach that was started b...

Vintage 2012

The next most exceptional vintage since 2008. A truly difficult growing season saw severe frosts in the winter. March brought warmth but early budbreak made the vines vulnerable to spring frosts. Overall, the early growing season was wet, and mildew became a serious issue. However, conditions improved dramatically in the later summer months. An August heatwave resulted in a rapid accumulation of sugar, but fortunately the nights remained cool,...

Written Notes

The 2012 Celebris is a breathtaking masterclass in structural tension, crystalline energy, and unexpected structural power. In the glass, it commands a brilliant, luminous golden straw hue with deep emerald reflections, animated by an incredibly persistent, tightly knitted stream of micro-bubbles.

The bouquet is instantly complex, deep, and beautifully vertical. It initially surges with clean, pristine fruit top-notes of fresh Asian pear, white peach, candied lemon confit, and red grapefruit zest. As it stretches and interacts with the air, its extensive ten-year cellar maturation takes over. A luxurious wave of secondary aromas unfolds, revealing puff pastry, almond frangipane pie, verbena tea, and white pepper, all layered over a deep foundation of wet chalk and crushed stones.

On the palate, the wine delivers a striking paradox of laser-focused sharpness and fleshy density. Because Gosset intentionally blocks the softening malolactic conversion, the natural fruit concentration and the naturally high acidity of the 2012 harvest ring out with immense, electric vibrancy. A tightly wound, tangy mineral spine cuts effortlessly through a broad mid-palate of red cherries, gooseberries, and vanilla cream. It possesses "more meat on the bones" than previous iterations, retaining a beautifully vinous, creamy texture. The finish is an absolute triumph—epic in length, extraordinarily clean, and deeply sapid, punctuated by a mouthwatering, lip-smacking saline mineral bite that lingers for minutes.

Drinking Window:

While Chef de Cave Odilon de Varine rightly notes that this wine is "still a baby" with structural bones built for eternity, its incredible concentration makes it a thrilling, visceral experience to open today. For collectors looking to cellar, this bottle has the immaculate acidity and density to comfortably evolve over the next 20 to 25 years. Peak drinking window: 2026–2048+
