Viognier Marsanne 2023 ($40) – A blend of 75% Viognier and 25% Marsanne from the Granite Belt, this a fine example of how the region focuses on what they call Strange Birds (alternative varieties). 

A pale lemon colour, the nose is pungently aromatic. While Viognier dominates the percentage of the blend, the nose is exhibiting more of a Marsanne character at this early stage. It is very much to the fore. There are some stonefruit and hazelnut notes here but the highlight of the wine is the textural component it offers. Good early complexity, a fine line of acidity and a lingering finish. This should drink well for at least six to eight years. 91.
