The Story

First planted in 1999, our Lenswood vineyard combines high altitude, mature vines, and diverse aspects, including cool east and south facing blocks. It is a great source for wines that can stand alone as single vineyard releases, with the balance to reward ageing.

Sourced exclusively from our Lenswood property. Planted in 1999, the vineyard reaches 500 meters above sea level. The soil is brown loam over clay with some broken shale and stone...

Vintage 2021

2021 Barossa Valley Vintage Report

Following two particularly dry seasons, many were hoping for Mother Nature to be much kinder, and mostly she was. Winter rainfall in 2020 recorded 148mm, the same as winter 2019, (22% below average). Written Notes

This Pinot Noir displays delicacy and fragrance with subtle layers of flavour, good texture and a well-balanced acidity. On the nose, the wine opens with aromas of red fruits and spices. The palate is bursting with flavour of raspberry, cherry, strawberry, toasted spice with firm but very fine tannins on the finish.

Shaw + Smith own two vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, at Balhannah and Lenswood, totalling 55 hectares. Vineyards are planted with varieties that perform particularly well in the region, namely Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. The grapes for this wine were sourced from block one in the Lenswood Vineyard. First planted in 1999, it has east and west-facing aspects, reaching 500 meters above sea level. The soil is brown loam over clay with some broken shale and stone on the ridges.

The grapes were hand picked and manually sorted, before being tipped into open fermenters, either as whole bunches (around 30%) or as destemmed berries. After a long and gentle fermentation, the wine was aged for 10 months in new oak (30%) and old French oak puncheons prior to bottling (the wine is unfiltered and unfined).
