History
Remelluri is known as the first farm in the Rioja wine region to start producing its wine from 100% grapes from its own vineyards. Remelluri estate is located quite high (500-800 m) above sea level, which gives its wines a fresh acidity and an elegant character. Remelluri cultivates mainly Tempranillo, but also small quantities of Mazuelo and Graciano. The specialty of tis the very limited production of white wine, Remelluri Blanco, which e.g. Robert Parker has been named the best white wine in Spain. The novelty of the house is the Lindes de Remelluri red wine, the grapes of which come in part from contract farmers in the vicinity of the Remelluri farm. The house has switched to organic production in 2010.
La Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri is a historic property which once belonged to the Monastery of Toloño. In 1596, the estate was providing wine to the town council in nearby Labastida, which is one of the earliest references to a bodega in Spain. The current estate was founded in 1971 by Jaime Rodriguez Salis and Amaya Hernandorena, who pioneered the concept of a single estate vineyard in Rioja.
The Remelluri Estate dates back centuries but the current estate was founded in 1971 and has forged an enviable reputation as one of the best producers in Rioja.
