The 2015 D'Armailhac was bottled at the end of May 2017. It has a very seductive bouquet with ample black fruit laced with tobacco and graphite, most but not all of the new oak subsumed. Just like in barrel, there is a floral element that becomes more pronounced with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well-judged acidity, smooth and harmonious with a sense of mineralité and precision on the finish that is outstanding. This no longer leaves me wanting more—excellent. Anticipated maturity: 2021 - 2040.

Score: 92 Neal Martin, -, March 2018

Berries and smoke with some wet-earth and leather undertones. Medium to full body, round and velvety tannins and a juicy and delicious finish. Like the walnut and coffee undertone. Drink in 2020.

Score: 93 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, February 2018

Written Notes

Dark ruby red colour with purple rim. Refined, floral nose with violets, blackcurrants and roasted coffee. Medium-bodied, refined palate with ripe black fruits and black olives. Round gentle tannins with cedary tones forms a nice backbone to the wine. Moderately long spicy and gently toasty finish. A feminine and elegant wine. JL 91p (4/2019)

Tasted in April 2016. Flowery and dark berry nose, polished, silky texture, well-balanced, fine smooth aftertaste. Quite rich.

Dark purple red with violet hue and almost black core. Pure nose with aroma reminiscent of blackberries and blackcurrants, elegant spiciness, vanilla, mild spices and elegant toasted aroma, slight smokiness in the background. On the palate excellent structure with juicy fruit, fine acidity and silky, almost sweet tannins. Impressing wine which is the best d'Armailhac tasted en primeur I recall.
  • 93p
Medium deep colour. Dark cherry. Liquorice aniseed aromas. Sweet dark cherry, dark chocolaty flavours, classical fine grained tannins and ginger oak notes. Finishes firm and long. Classical yet elemental Pauillac. 94 points
