The Story

Siepi, owned by Mazzei family since 1435, has always been a model farm, still managed today with the same kind of respect.

A unique location, a special microclimate, the foresight in the early 1980s to plant Merlot as the ideal grape to complement Sangiovese in a very particular "terroir" produce a wine which is perfectly balanced between elegance, power and complexity.

Producer: Castello di Fonterutoli

Vineyard: Siepi – Castellina in Chianti, Toscana

Soil: Mainly Alberese

Age of vines: 20-33 years

Altitude: 260m south to south-west exposure

First vintage: 1992

Key descriptors: Monumentally built, crispy notes of elder, plum, berries, sandalwood, tobacco, with a very long, bright finish

Written Notes

Intense crimson colour with garnet hue. Intense character, very aromatic, multi-layered with ripe blackberries, black cherries, hints of blackcurrants, graphite, elegant floral tones. Vanilla, mild spices and cocoa in the background, discreet hints of dried aromatic herbs. On the palate well structured with excellent tension, sweet tannins, wonderful toasting flavour in the background. An excellent with great depth and length.
