History

The House was founded in Avize by Arthur Agrapart at the end of the 19th century and extended by his grandson Pierre in the 1950's-1960's.Today the Agrapart vineyards spread over 12 hectars in the heart of the Côte des Blancs.Since its creation the Champagne Agrapart and Sons is a Champagne maker vintner (R.M.) The champagne maker vintner has the privilege of mastering at all times the maturing of the grapes and hence the progression of his wine. Because of this we are very proud in offering a constant quality to our customers.

Winemaking

The Agrapart domain is situated in Avize and the vineyards are found mainly in Avize, Oger, Cramant and Oiry, all Grand Cru from the Côte des Blancs. This geographical situation, right in the heart of the Champagne region and in the villages classed Grand Cru, is exceptional. The chalky soil, specific to the Côte des Blancs, allows us to work the Chardonnay grape variety, known especially for the freshness, elegance and finesse it brings to the wine. Composed of 50 plots, of which certain are over 65 years old, the average age of the vines being about 40 years.

The grapes are pressed with a tradi- tional Coquard vertical press, and fermentation is car- ried out with natural yeasts, which Agrapart feels is crucial to the expression of terroir. Malolactic fermen- tation is completed for all the wines, and a portion of the best wines of the harvest are aged in old, 600-liter demi-muids: “the older the better,” says Agrapart, as he hates the flavors of new barrels. The wines are typically bottled around the full moon of May, with no fining, no filtration and no cold stabilization.

Always concerned about bringing more dimension to our Champagnes

We fight for the truth of the terroir.

Ploughing and ‘’home-made’’ compost encourage the rooting and the microbial life of the soil.

All our vintages come from fragmented vinifications.

Fermentation with the indigenous yeast from the grapes.

A long ageing on the lees in oak barrels.

Inside information

Les 7 Crus -  A superb bottle that beautifully synthesizes the pure and opulent fruit of top quality chardonnay vineyards in the Côte de Blancs with a racy, structured minerality that gives the wine superb length and cut. It is delicious out of the blocks, but really will easily keep ten to fifteen years.

Terroirs - Blend of têtes de cuvée from terroirs in Avize, Oger, Cramant and Oiry.  A fine, elegant, yet powerful Champagne…dare we say a “poor mans’s Clos de Mesnil”?

Complantée - Blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Arbane, Petit Meslier and Chardonnay all from the village of Avize.

Minéral - This is a blend of téte de cuvée selections from two parcels located at the top of the hillside, planted in pure chalk; Les Champboutons in Avize and Les Bionnes in Cramant. These vineyards have 40+ year old vines and produce the most mineral-driven, laser-like wine of the Agrapart lineup.

Vénus - Made from a single, 0.3 hectare vineyard named La Fosse that was planted in 1959. It is located in the middle of the hillside and has both the chalk of the hillsides at the top of the parcel and the heavier clay over limestone at the bottom. The soils are tilled by a horse named Vénus. The wine shows stunning depth and richness combined with exceptional freshness and minerality.

L’Avizoise – Made from two of the estate’s oldest parcels, the Grand Crus of Les Robards and La Voie D’Epernay, each with 50+ year old vines at the bottom of the hillside where there is the presence of clay soils over the limestone subsoil.  L’Avizoise is the most powerful wine in the lineup.
