History

Olivier Bonville runs this Côte des Blancs estate, originally set up by his grandfather Franck, a grower in Avize. The Bonvilles now have an unrivalled domaine in Avize, Oger and Cramant, totalling more than 20 hectares of Chardonnay vineyards, all classified Grand Cru. Franck Bonville champagnes are all Blanc de Blancs.

Their son Gilles was willing to commit to the family company with his wife Ingrid. They both modernized the work tools and it is Olivier, third generation, who currently carries on the family adventure with his parents still by his side.

Inside information

The business covers 20 hectare only in the Cramant, Avize and Oger areas, three districts classified Grand CruAn environmentally respectful form of viticulture, a meticulous wine-making process , and a long ageing process, are all factors which allow us to express and respect what is typical of our area. Our efforts do not end with the finished product. The presentation of our vintage needs to be in perfect harmony with those moments you wish to celebrate.

Richard Juhlin , Wine Writer (Sweden)  tasted  1 wines  from  Franck Bonville . In a tasting of  26 wines

Moet & Chandon vintage 2012 / A stylish and very promising vintage where elegance and finesse are stronger keywords than power and concentration. Chardonnay dominates the overall impression at the launch as the Pinot grapes work more as a structural moderator in the first years. Delicate polished buttery and spring floral notes dance beautifully over the tongue in a lovely youthful harmony.

Richard Juhlin , Wine Writer (Sweden)  tasted  1 wines  from  Franck Bonville . In a tasting of  32 wines

Vintage 1976 / A giant crop of ripe grapes yielded eshy and extract-rich champagnes that remind of 1947s and 1959s, but still do not quite match up to those years of greatness. Quite often, one can nd an earthy and smoky undertone in the taste through the oily structure. This vintage year is one of the best developing in the last ten years, and today this is one of my favorite vintages to open at home and enjoy in large, buttery sips. Louis Roederer Cristal, Dom Pérignon, Billecart-Salmon, and Salon are all delicious wines, which managed to avoid this very hot year’s distraction. Most enjoyable is still the Venoge Des Princes and the inimitable Taittinger Comtes de Champagne.

Paulius Gruodis, Pro (Lithuania)  tasted  2 wines  from  Franck Bonville . In a tasting of  14 wines

This is not very frequent that in a single champagne tasting you are being offered some rare and old champagnes many of which score some bold 97-99 points. Certainly, it will not be surprising for anyone to assume this is due to the fact that these particular bottles were either oenothèque versions (late-disgorged having spent many years extra in the cellar) or with a perfect provenance. Otherwise I do not have any other explanation for huge scores I gave last weekend, especially, given that I had tried many of them on different occasions from bottles with original disgorgement. And what a difference if compared! This was a special tasting not only because of the above-mentioned features but also the content of the line-up itself. Top performers of the night were 1979 Pierre Peters Les Chétillons, 1990 Bollinger Vieilles Vignes Françaises, 1973 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, Selosse trio from 1990 (50%), 1989 (25%) and 1988 (25%) as well as another trio by Anselme from 1998 (50%), 1997 (25%) and 1996 (25%), 1988 Franck Bonville Avize Grand Cru, 1985 Magnum Pommery Flacon d'Exception. To capture the great moment we have finished with 1870 Ingham Whitaker & Co. Marsala Superiore Riserva. Delicious indeed.

“All the best Champagnes from the 2004 vintage.”

Christer Byklum , Wine Writer (Norway)  tasted  1 wines  from  Franck Bonville . In a tasting of  25 wines

“Previously, this cuvée was called “Larmandier-Bernier Tradition”, a name that was chosen in the 1970’s by Pierre’s parents.
We decided on “Latitude” since it seemed to give a better description of this cuvée, with its fully round, rich, charming style.
It is composed exclusively of Chardonnays originating from the same “latitude”: the south of Vertus. This is a generous terroir: the cuvée Latitude is the perfect festive Champagne, which still retains the characteristic pureness of our Estate’s Champagnes.
For this cuvée, the grapes were harvested by hand in 2009. Reserve wines made in 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005 and 2004 make up one third of the blend.”
