History

The commune of Chouilly is famous for the high quality of its Chardonnay, it is classified among the 17 grands crus that counts the Champagne. It is more than 500 hectares of vineyards, the largest terroir classified 100%, a spread and a variety of exposure that makes some oenologist say "our village is a small champagne all alone".

The GENET family has been established for several generations on the grands crus of Chouilly, Michel GENET created its brand in 65. Today, Vincent, Agnès, Antoine, took over the lands of their ancestors. A family story, a love of wine, the vine, a shared passion ...

Vineyards

A healthy and sustainable viticulture, made of reasoned struggle, plowing, and grass-growing, is practiced on our vines. A little more than 37 parcels, like a mosaic, make up our vineyard, thus allowing us subtle assemblages, thus perpetuate the vinification codes established by Michel GENET.

The work of the vineyard and the wine are practiced by hand respecting the raw material, the grapes. The vinification is done in pure tradition.

Winemaking

Antoine, Vincent & Agnès Genet are delighted to unveil their new range of labels. Immensely proud of their Grand Cru terroir, unswerving high quality and responsiveness, and strong family history as independent winemakers, the threesome have announced their values loud and clear by declaring themselves: Manufacteurs de Grands Crus.

We chose to call ourselves “manufacteurs” (“artisans”) for the word’s Latin origins in manu-factum = made by hand. We are personally involved in every stage of creating our Champagnes, from growing the grapes in healthy, sustainable vineyards to the on-site vinification and maturation of our wine. Just as you would find in any other manufacturing facility, we each have our own role to play, and are heavily involved in every single stage of production: we even keep a close eye on our vine parcels ourselves. We harvest by hand with our very own team of pickers to ensure that the grapes we use are of the very highest quality. We also separate each cru to bring it in every year so that we can vinify each parcel individually. We make our wine in Chouilly at our Le Transvaal site (part of which dates back to 1900) which, just like any other manufacturing complex, has a reception area, a production space, and a
storage facility.

The knowledge that we hold so dear, and which is behind the excellent reputation and calibre of our products, has been passed down through our family for several generations. So, as a mark of our quality, we are proud to call ourselves “Manufacteurs de Grands Crus”, highlighting the skill and passion that we bring to our precious classified vineyard. It is a privilege that we have inherited, and which we cherish with great care every single day. We would love for you to be able to share in our philosophy and enjoy our range of champagnes in a new light. Our cuvées taste just the same, but their labels now reflect our philosophy towards our work.

We hope that you will have the opportunity to come and see our factory, which is open for visitors by appointment, and to sample our products either here with us or in the comfort of your own home – an order form is attached for your convenience.
