‘The Heir’ Syrah McLaren Vale 2018 ($80) – If the previous decade had a vintage to challenge 2016, it would undoubtedly be 2018, and this is a wine which delivers on that promise and potential. Black centre with maroon rims, the nose gives us notes of mulberries, tobacco leaves, black fruits and spicy notes, along with an intriguing touch of balsamic/iodine.
