Written Notes

Vivaltus is made by Montxo Martinez, winemaker of Vivaltus and Jean-Claude Berrouet, the former regisseur of Pétrus. The aim of achieving a growth with elegance, finesse and freshness is even achieved in this hot and dry vintage of 2017. The colour is intense purple with a garnet coloured hue, violet tinges and an almost black core. The nose is initially closed, yet opening up well, displaying an aroma reminiscent of dark berries, blackcurrants, blackberries and blueberries, ripe plums and a discreet touch of chocolate coated prunes in the background. The fruit is complemented by noble toasting and multi-layered spiciness with hints of vanilla, cloves as well as cocoa powder in the background. On the palate the typical velvety tannins are combined with exquisite acidity, creating freshness together with the fine minerality. A refined wine with ripe and juicy fruit, quoting the flavour of the nose. A wine which confirms the way, Vivaltus has taken, impressing.
