The Story

Concerto di Fonterutoli, which first saw the light of day in 1981, is one of the first ten wines that spawned the legend of the Supertuscans in a decade which marked a historic turnabout in Tuscan winemaking.

Concerto's first vintage 1981 was an outright experiment resulting in only fifteen barriques – the very first barriques ever to be used at Fonterutoli – jealously guarded in our historic cellars for eighteen months.

Written Notes

A deep, dark ruby red reveals a wine brimming with richness and vibrant promise. The nose offers a tapestry of ripe cherries, bramble fruits, raspberries, and blackcurrants, entwined with nuances of black tea, olives, and warm baking spices. On the palate, it’s full-bodied and concentrated, unfolding with juicy red and dark fruit tones, delicate floral hints, and a supple texture. While more robust and slightly less lifted than the 2021 vintage, it’s undeniably generous and delicious. Best enjoyed between 2028 and 2035. Serve at 17–18°C alongside Beef Wellington, Bistecca alla Fiorentina, or aged salty cheeses for a perfect pairing. – JL 96p (July 2025)
