The Story

Laville Haut-Brion is arguably the greatest dry white wine in Bordeaux. 

Only 1,000 cases per year are produced from a tiny and exclusive 3.7 hectare vineyard with an average vine age of over 50 years. It is a blend of 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc - the grapes are barrel-fermented and the wine is matured in 100% new oak barriques for 15-18 months before being bottled.

Written Notes

Lunch was served, and we continued on with another couple of whites, this time with a little more age. The 2005 Laville Haut Brion was more taut than the ’07 despite being a couple years older. Classic aromas of minerals and glue oversaw its big, alcoholic palate. There were flavors of glue, straw and honeycomb. The ’95 was stony, full, long and impressive, balanced and deft despite an oversized personality (94).

Tasted in September 2015. This wine displayed great classy nose of acacia flower and lemon grass, splendid acidity and depth, great complexity, balance, structure and length. Impressive effort.
