The Story

Laville Haut-Brion is arguably the greatest dry white wine in Bordeaux.

Only 1,000 cases per year are produced from a tiny and exclusive 3.7 hectare vineyard with an average vine age of over 50 years. It is a blend of 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc - the grapes are barrel-fermented and the wine is matured in 100% new oak barriques for 15-18 months before being bottled.

Written Notes

The 2007 Laville Haut Brion was very gamy in its pungent nose with aromas of straw, hay, chicken coop and glue. The palate was lemony and melony, a bit tangy with lots of vitamin flavors on its finish. There is much more Semillon (80%) in the Laville than the Haut Brion Blanc that followed (92).

Tasted in October 2009. Not especially good vintage for reds but for whites 2007 is splendid. 83% Sémillon + 17% Sauvignon Blanc. Green yellow. Acacia flower, citrus, apple on the nose, aromatic and very intense. Splendidly balanced on the palate with fresh acidity and in the whole an excellent effort for the vintage.
