Vintage 2005

Bordeaux Vintage Report 2005 is a truly fantastic vintage with great quality across the board on both the Left and Right Banks.

The 2005 vintage became the most anticipated since 2000. The early market was heated and prices skyrocketed. The cold winter delayed bud break before the warm, dunny spring broke through. Bright ruby. Scented blueberries and leather nose. Rich but transparent. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, superb balance, savory, long, fresh and transparent finish. 94

Deep dark garnet red. Youthful. Bold tight flavours with slight vaneer of vanillary oak. Impressive concentration of really pure red and black fruit flavours. Perhaps a little angular still but there is a lot of wine potential in this wine. Full bodied with seamless tannins on the finish. 2016 – 2022.

"As usual, distinctive raspberry/kirsch liqueur notes emanate from this primarily Merlot-based wine. The pronounced, fragrant, intense aromatics are followed by a more structured, masculine wine than this generally feminine, gentle-styled St.-Emilion. The 2005 Magdelaine exhibits a dark ruby/purple hue along with medium to full-bodied flavors, and moderate tannin and structure. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025." RP

D 12 h / G 4+ h Deep, intense ruby red colour. Medium-intense, elegant nose with ripe dark fruits, hints of leather, and smoke. Floral. Medium-bodied, vivid acidity, firm velvety tannins, elegant, good grip in lingering long spicy finish. Clove and cardamom very dominant in powerful tannic structure. Great power and finesse.
