95 points Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 1900 Verdelho has a resinous, sappy, almost introverted bouquet that is quite butch and masculine. The palate is spicy and masculine on the entry with notes of marmalade and a touch of tobacco. There are firm, quite dry tannins, but there is more than sufficient fruit on the finish, plus an attacking acidity to back it up and keep everything harmonious. This is an excellent Verdelho. (

The Story

This is a gently rich wine and tastes almost medium sweet when young. Verdelho has a deep golden colour. Verdelho Madeira wine exhibits some of the most pleasing tastes, and in drinking Verdelho you will find notes of caramel, caramelized orange, crème brulee and dried fruits and figs as well as  some hints of wood. The finish is long and stays fresh with the citrus notes remaining to the fore.

Written Notes

Mid mahogany colour. Elegantly nutty, refined nose. Very charming. Then an amazingly savoury fresh strike on the palate. Wonderfully demanding and refined. I could hardly bear to spit. Great tension on the finish. (JH)

Amber with gold/orange rim. Nuts, citrus, dried fruits, floral, rich and intense. Fresh acidity, slightly hollow, but refreshing, very long finish. Another I've tasted a few times, quite 'typical' bottle. 93+
