The Story

About the Vineyard: Chassagne-Montrachet lies towards the southern end of the Côte de Beaune and is famous for its white wines, although half of its total plantings are in red. In addition to the Grand Crus, Blain-Gagnard’s holdings in Chassagne-Montrachet include two red premier crus and four white premier crus along with small holdings in Volnay and Pommard. The vineyards are farmed by lutte raisonée (“reasoned struggle”).

Vintage 2008

 An indifferent spring caused uneven flowering and mildew risk. At the end of June the weather changed for the better, continuing into July. Apart from local hail in the Côte de Beaune at the end of July, the summer began well. August arrived fairly cold and variable, but fortunately the last week of the month brought fine, warm weather. The lead-up to harvest saw sunny skies, apart from two days of rain in mid-September. A challenging vintage...

Served blind. Pale lemon yellow. Ripe yellow fruits, minerals, layers, light nutty note, ripe lemons, scented. Fresh acidity, lively, fruity, intense, detailed, playful and mouthwatering, quite extreme, layers upon layers, amazing length. Creamy, detailed, needed time to open, few hours in decanter. Wide. 98
