The Story

Le Clos des Forêts Saint Georges covers an area of 7.2 hectares in one piece. A unique terroir and a privileged location have shaped one of the great wines of Nuits Saint Georges from the start.

Site: Le Clos des Forêts Saint Georges covers the entire geological palette of the hillside of Nuits Saint Georges: Ladoix limestone at the bottom of the hill, Premeaux limestone in the middle, and white oolites limestone for the upper part, with by location a marked presence of ocher silt. This Clos is planted entirely in Pinot Noir.

Vinification: manual harvest, minimalist vatting, pumping-over and punching down without excess to reveal the whole aromatic palette of this great terroir. With a maximum of 50% new barrels, the aging lasts on average 15 months in barrels then 3 months in tanks before bottling.

Ageing: the generous terroir of Forêts Saint Georges shapes the soul of this wine. It builds a solid red around well-present tannins which define a wine for aging. A few years in the cellar allow it to free itself, age makes it more graceful, silky and more accomplished.

Wine Information

Weather: The year remains marked by an unusual weather with a mild winter and especially a hot and dry spring. After May 15, the weather turns cold and humid. Luckily, the sun returns in September.

Harvest: The Pinot Noir collection started on August 31 under the sun. Paradoxically, the Chardonnays were harvested last. On September 9 all the grapes were in the vat. A delicate state of health led to drastic sorts, this very rigorous selection made it possible to release a good quality. Average yields.

Food pairing: This racy red deserves great red meats. The rib of beef cooked slowly on embers is essential but we can also think of a pepper fillet, a rack of lamb with herbs or a duck breast with sweet spices. These suggestions are offered for information only, as a springboard to your taste imagination.
